The large city of Hamburg has always been closely connected with the trading industry due to the fact that this German city is home to second largest port in the entire European continent and the 9th largest in the whole world. Thus, it only comes natural that this deeply rooted trading industry would manifest itself in the 21st century through commerce and commercialism, making the mercantile city of Hamburg an interesting place to go shopping.

Hamburg City shopping can be quite interesting because of the fact that the monumental Hamburg Harbour receives and ships out all sorts of products, raw materials and merchandises 24/7. These items being transported to Hamburg came from all over the world, Japanese electronics, Spanish wine, Egyptian cotton, Philippine fruit preserves, French designer clothes and millions of other items. You can shop for these imported products and items all over Hamburg, in small stores, open markets, designer shops, large shopping malls and crowded bazaars.

But don't think that all you would find when shopping in Hamburg are imported items. Hamburg city can also boast of numerous quality shops, local brands and manufacturers that produce anything from designer leather goods, food stuffs, books, electronics, cars, garments and many other items you would just want to have. Souvenir shops are also very popular in Hamburg and are the haunt of tourists and travelers all throughout the year.

Aside from the diversity and impressive number of things to shop for in Hamburg City, another fine feature of Hamburg shopping is the interesting shopping malls, shopping districts and bazaars that the city has. All in all, Hamburg, Germany has about 9 major shopping malls and several other smaller ones. One of the most impressive ones is the Hanse Viertel Galerie Passage which is a very long shopping mall, around 200 meters longs, and is topped of by a glistening glass roof that allows soft natural sunlight to bath the many shoppers strolling around inside.

Another interesting shopping mall in Hamburg is the modern and newly built Europa Passage. This newly constructed shopping complex offers a convenient location, being near the city hall, and also a scenic environment as it is near the Alster Lake.

The biggest shopping area in Hamburg however is the Mönckebergstrasse. Here you can find everything from expensive designer boutiques, thrift shops, vintage stores and curio stands all jumbled together along with cafés, restaurants, hair salons, department stores, groceries and recreational facilities.
